Referee Roger Chilvers has been forced to
announce his retirement from active refereeing. The Doctors have diagnosed ‘severe
rheumatoid arthritis’ in his right
knee, and this means that he can no longer
officiate on a Sunday Morning,
Roger first took up the whistle in March
1974, over 35 years ago, and has enjoyed
considerable success in his refereeing career. He officiated in the Isthmian League
as Referee and linesman for 13 years as well
as running the line in the Conference, and
Football Combination, running the line
at grounds as far apart as Ipswich and Portsmouth
and all points in between, He has acted as
4th official at Tottenham, Arsenal, West Ham,
QPR, Crystal Palace, Leyton Orient,
Millwall and Charlton, A London referee
he, refereed the London Senior Cup final,
between Welling and Boreham Wood as well
as the London Sunday Cup Final and the London
Intermediate Cup Final.
He has refereed in the FA Cup, FA Trophy
and FA Vase as well as acting as Linesman
in the FA Vase Semi final at Stansted .
Roger has thoroughly enjoyed his career,
but regretfully ‘wear and tear’
has finally caught up with him. He has officiated in approximately
500 senior games and 1000 games on
a Sunday morning but the time has come to
retire. Roger will still remain involved
in the administration side of football, both
for the Essex Sunday Comb and Ilford Football
Club.

There are still several teams who fail to
call in their County Cup scoreline, which
makes it very difficult to fixture games
correctly. Make every effort to correct this
situation otherwise you may find yourselves
potentially losing out along the line, be
it financially, or being unable to fit in
all your games by season end.
